If you're talking about an undiscovered gem, the inner Osterfjord is a good example. In recent years, the Osterfjord has been discovered as one of the most beautiful fjord landscapes in Western Norway - a spectacular fjord and nature experience you will not soon forget.

A journey of discovery in this fjord is a journey through the history of the fjord people from the Viking Age to the present day. It tells the story of the fjord as the most important transportation route, the fjord farmer and the people who lived along the fjord, salmon fishing with nets and salmon gillnets, sand navigation on the Osterfjord, roadless hamlets, mighty waterfalls and wild mountains. The Osterfjord that has created poetry and tones through the songs "Singel og sand" and "Dar kjem kjem dampen".

The tour starts at Tyssebotn, where local skipper and guide Tore welcomes us aboard M/B Ospenes - the small scheduled boat that is the lifeblood of the small farms along the fjord. The trip goes into Tjuasundet where Tore will tell stories and legends.

Continue on into the spectacular Osterfjord and Mofjorden to the idyllic and exciting Mostraumen with its tidal estuary created by the fjord that became a lake, and which became a fjord again.

Here you can try your hand at fishing if the skipper is confident of catching fish? Along the fjord you will hear about the battle with King Sverre on the ice in Mellestadsundet and life on the sheltered farms.

As the boat approaches Kleiveland, a couple of small "cabins" appear on stilts close to the water's edge. Here you can hear salmon stories about old fishing methods and newly restored salmon gills that tell of the long tradition of salmon fishing as a sideline for the fjord farmer.

It's time for a short stop at the "new quay" at Kleiveland, the village that was its own school district and got a road in 1983. If anyone is up for a dip in the sea, this is the ideal place.

Now it's time for a few bites of smoked salmon, before the trip continues to disembark in Tyssebotn.
